It may have rained at Sunday’s 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, but leading ladies including Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman had a perfect hair day thanks to their stylists, who give us the 411 on how they achieved their red carpet looks.

Penelope Cruz may have lost out to Mo’Nique for her performance in the musical film Nine, but her elegant waves were award-winning. Celebrity stylist Oribe was inspired by Cruz’s vintage Armani dress and her fresh tan when he created the look. Here are Oribe’s step-by-step instructions to achieve the style using products from his own haircare line.

1. Work Gel Serum through the hair.
2. Spray Impermable Anti-Humidity Spray on hair before using hot tools to help protect the style and prevent frizz.
3. Use hot rollers or a curling iron to set hair.
4. Brush loose curls into place.
5. Accentuate the wave in the front and make sure it is pronounced.
6. Clip the hair in place and spray it with Superfine Hair Spray.
7. Use a bobby pin to pin hair back on one side.

Cruz’s Nine co-star, Nicole Kidman, turned to David Babaii, who created a natural and effortless look for the red carpet.

1. Blow dry hair with a round brush.
2. After hair is dry, create a side part and sweep gently over the ear and secure with bobby pins. Brush remaining hair back and smooth into an off center ponytail.
3. Take sections from underneath the ponytail and wrap loosely under and secure with pins allowing the ends to be exposed.
4. Continue pinning 1 inch sections, which are twirled and wrapped into a modern chignon. Do not comb or smooth any of the sections so you can create a soft natural look.
5. Finish with David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Hold Styling Spray to tame flyaways.

Anna Kendrick also lost out to Mo’Nique for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Up In The Air, but the young actress proved that she is on her way to becoming a style icon. Celebrity hair guru, Stephanie Hobgood, used Davines products to get Kendrick’s classy style.

1. Use Love Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner.
2. Apply Davines For Wizards No. 3 Universal Mattering Mousse liberally. This gave Anna’s hair body and volume, but left it soft and shiny. “It’s made for medium hold and long-lasting control, so I knew she wouldn’t have to worry about the style holding throughout the night,” Hobgood said.
3. After parting hair, pinning up, and leaving some loose tendrils in the front, apply Davines For Wizards No. 1 Finest Oil Non Oil. It will add a soft definition that helps eliminate the static effect and tame the flyaways.
4. Spray hair with Davines For Wizards No. 9 Structuring Mist for medium hold and high shine. Hobgood said, “Anna loves the smell of the product and her hair was covered in Davines! We had so much fun getting ready!”

Stylist Harry Josh created classic yet modern waves on Australian beauty and nominee Rose Byrne using John Frieda products. “I went for an old school Hollywood style with a modern twist,” said Josh. “The shape and silhouette is classic, but I roughed it up a little and loosened the waves to make the look less uptight.”

1. Apply Luxurious Volume Bountiful Body Mousse to wet hair to add texture. “Before you start styling, add tons of mousse to sectioned off hair. It will give hair the texture it needs to help the waves set and stay in all night,” explains Josh.
2. Blowdry hair with a round brush section by section.
3. Use a small curling iron, wrapping each section with the iron pointed down.
4. Brush out curls until you get the perfect wave.
5. Spray Luxurious Volume All Out Hold Hairspray to keep hair full and lifted throughout the night. This spray is really light and dry so it doesn’t affect the style, but will hold waves in place for hours.
6. Add a side pin to give the look a little touch of glamour.
