When Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman needed their locks looking perfect on Oscar night, they turned to celebrity stylist David Babaii. Here he tells us how we can achieve Angie and Nicole’s Oscar hair in the comfort of our own home.

Angelina Jolie

1. To achieve this romantic cascade of curls, spray entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunch it into the hair. This gives just the right texture and hold.

2. Dry hair by dividing tresses into 3 sections: top, sides and back, leaving the nape area free.

3. Taking small sections starting at the nape, use the David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer with the nozzle attachment and finish the drying process with a large round brush to smooth hair straight.

4. At the crown area, spray David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier to the root area and down the hair shaft.

5. Then dry this section with a jumbo round brush to add lift and volume.

6. Once dry, section the hair again using the same sectioning process as you did for blow drying.

7. Using the David Babaii for WildAid Styling Iron, once again section the hair into 3 sections: top, sides and back, leaving the nape area free.

8. To curl, use the Styling Iron to create “ribbon curls” by taking small “V” shaped sections. To achieve, wrap the hair around and inside the styling iron close to the scalp area and pull the iron down (similar to curling ribbon).

9. After curling the entire head, smooth some of the curls with a brush while leaving some intact.

10. At the crown area, back-brush the hair at the scalp area only, spray some additional Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier and gently smooth the surface not to remove too much of the back-brushing.

11. Next, to create Angie’s half-up, half down look, brush the sides up and back and secure with pins.

12. To complete the back, run your fingers up several curls to create volume and variations in texture.

13. For a long but natural lasting hold, use David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

Styling Tip: Why so much sectioning? It is vital to have constant control of your hair at all times. You will never miss an area or a section.

Nicole Kidman

According to Babaii, Nicole’s Oscar look is all about glamorizing the bob.

1. After thoroughly towel drying, apply David Babaii for WildAid Amplifying Whipped Mousse for volume and hold.

2. Dry the hair by dividing it into 3 sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free.

3. Creating small sections, start at the nape and use the David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer with the nozzle attachment.

4. Dry each section with a medium round brush to smooth and create a soft round bend to the ends.

5. Once again, section the hair into 3 sections: top with a side part, sides and back leaving the nape area free.

6. To create waves, form “V” shaped pieces and use the David Babaii for WildAid Styling Iron. Run the styling iron down the hair shaft from close to the roots to the ends to create a sleek, smooth look.

7. Repeat, now half way down the hair shaft utilize the beveled edge by turning the styling iron (like a curling iron) to create a soft curl.

8. Clip each curl and spray with David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray. Alternate the direction of each row of curls in order to achieve a finger wave effect.

9. When finished, gently brush and form into soft waves using the David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray for a soft long lasting hold.

10. To finish, brush back one side and secure with a decorative hair pin.

Styling Tip: Using “V” shaped sections helps to eliminate the appearance of partings.
