Kim Vo Salon wins “Battle of the Strands”

Email This Post

Right in time for Halloween, the Battle of the Strands competition and masquerade ball was held at the beautiful Spanish Mansion, a 10,000 square foot estate in a 2.5 acre enclosed property 1.5 miles from the Vegas strip. Five competing salons had to portray the theme “Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future” using hair, make-up, costume, and props on their three models. The Kim Vo Salon at the Mirage Casino received the award for Top Salon of Las Vegas 2011.

The winning salon featured a ghostly white Ghost of Christmas Past, a vine-covered Ghost of Christmas Present, writhing on the floor with a giant boa constrictor, and an eerie Ghost of Christmas Future with a gaping hole in place of a right eye.

Dove Self-Esteem Weekend helps you feel beautiful

Email This Post

According to recent research by Dove Global, only 11% of girls worldwide are comfortable using the word “beautiful” to describe themselves. When girls feel bad about their looks, more than 70% (age 15-17) of them avoid normal daily activities, including attending school, going to the doctor, or even giving their opinion.

During the Dove Self-Esteem Weekend (October 21-23), the beauty brand is helping girls build a positive relationship with beauty so that they can reach their full potential. Parents can help their daughters by pledging to spend an hour participating in a self-esteem building activity.

2011 Emmy red carpet hairstyles

Email This Post

Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii created Emmy nominee Gwyneth Paltrow‘s look for this year’s show. He called her style “straight edgy” by taking a straight look and disheveling it to create soft texture.

1. To begin, Babaii took a small amount of Couture Colour Pequi Oil and massaged it into the hair prior to blow drying.
2. After the hair was completely dry, he parted her hair down the middle and divided strands into 4 sections (sides, crown and nape).
3. To straighten, he used the IT&LY HAIRFASHION 1″ Digital Flat Iron with even temperature control. He started at the nape working up toward the crown and sides.
4. To finish and create movement, Babaii added an additional amount of Pequi Oil to his hands running it through her hair and scrunching to create this “straight edgy” look.
