The hair team for the new movie, Burlesque, starring Cher and Christina Aguilera tell us how to achieve the hairstyles for Christina and some of the other dancers.

Sarah Mitchell as Burlesque Dancer / Hair by Colleen LaBaff

1. LaBaff wanted to take advantage of her texture and create this soft curly look infused with shine.
2. She began by spraying each section with White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Styling Spray prior to heat styling the hair.
3. At the top, she used a big barrel curling iron, directing the hair back and away from the face.
4. She then pinned each curl and allowed them to cool.
5. To finish the rest of the head, she alternated a large barrel curling iron with a medium, creating spiral type waves.
6. Sara’s hair has amazing hold so she completed the look with IT&LY HAIRFASHION Pure Water Drops for incredible softness and shine.

Christina Aguilera as Ali / Hair by Frida Aradottir

1. Aradottir sprayed White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Styling Spray onto damp hair and dried tresses with the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Italian Racing Red Ionic Blow Dryer.
2. Once hair was dry, she took small sections, utilizing a small barrel curling iron to curl the entire head.
3. After these tight curls were created, she brushed it all out and massaged a small amount of IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Pure Water Drops into the curls for a softer look full of volume.
4. She finished with White Sands Infinity Hairspray for hold.

Chelsea Traille as Coco / Hair by Jas Kimble

1. For one look, Kimble curled the front with a curling iron and then braided the hair up in the back followed by attaching a fall.
2. Working with hair pieces and wigs, the hair department pre-set most of these pieces so they were fresh and ready to go.
3. This fall was one of the wigs that had already been wet set, so after she attached it, Kimble brushed it out to complete the style.
4. She then created finger waves in the front section of the hair using her fingers and long clips to hold them in.
5. When finished, she entwined them into the fall.
6. For hold, she used IT&LY HAIRFASHION Pure Definition Hair Spray.

1. For a second look, (pictured above), she applied several products from Kimble Hair Care Systems and then pulled her tresses up into a high, sleek ponytail.
2. She then attached a faux ponytail (which was sewn on because it was so long) and used White Sands Infinity Hair Spray and the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Blow Dryer as part of the attachment process.

New York facial plastic surgeon Dr. Yael Halaas, has found great success with surgical hair restoration which takes donor hair from other areas of the head and moves it to the thinning or balding areas. “The vast majority of women experience thinning hair when they hit menopause, but unlike men who thin in the front, women get diffuse thinning around the entire head so it can be a challenge to find a donor area,” she says. This procedure can be costly at $4000 and up, depending on how many grafts are needed, but the results are permanent.

According to Dr. Halaas, tight braids and extensions pull on the hair which can also result in hair loss. “This type of hair loss is called Traction Alopecia which we see often on African-American women,” she says. She also advises against using Propecia to regrow hair because it is not FDA approved and can cause dangerous hormone levels in women.

Don’t need surgery, but still need help. Check out the new pHormulate hair care line. This anti-aging system uses ChromaGuard technology to restore moisture bonds which are lost during the aging process, resulting in dull and lifeless hair. The line consists of an ammonia free coloring system and styling products that contain natural ingredients such as sage, rosemary, chamomile, lemongrass and goldenseal which are combined with the ChromaGuard technology to reverse the signs of aging hair.

Maybe you’re just not using the right brush. The Olivia Garden Healthy Hair bamboo brushes not only help detangle and style hair, but they can be used to massage your scalp, which stimulates blood flow, resulting in hair growth and reduced hair loss.

Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii, whose clients include Angelina Jolie and Kate Hudson, is doing his part to save our planet. He’s teamed up with Kate Hudson to bring his new haircare line David Babaii for WildAid. This new line is inspired by the beauty of nature and includes natural ingredients such as sandalwood and cucumber fruit extract. And best of all, it’s tested on Kate, not on animals!

David tells us how we can get Kate’s signature style– The Bohemian Wave using his products. “It’s all about 4 main signature stages: drying, sectioning, curling and styling,” he says. First, spray the entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunch it into the hair. This gives just the right texture and movement. “I always like rough drying her hair using my hands, moving the hair in various directions until it’s dry.”

Once dry, section the hair into 3 different parts. This is vital because it gives you constant control of hair at all times. David uses 3-4 different size ceramic curling irons to create Kate’s classic bohemian wave. Taking small “V” shaped strands, wrap the hair around the outside of the closed barrel, leaving the ends free. He then runs his fingers up the partially curled strand to get a dramatic wild finish. For additional lift or volume at the scalp area, use David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier. “To complete the look, I spray more of the Bohemian Beach Spray and have Kate flip her head down and over.”

David Babaii for WildAid further supports the beauty in nature by donating ten percent of all profits to WildAid, the global wildlife conservation organization. For store locations, visit db4WildAid.com.

You have the perfect dress and makeup for Valentine’s Day, but what about the hair? MyFoxLA contest winner for best hair color and celebrity stylist Marco Pelusi whose clients include Carol Alt and Stacey Kiebler shows us how to go from day to va-va-voom!

Pretty fine texture and color treated hair like the model below needs some moisture and color. Try Marco Color Bodifying Shampoo, then apply a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner before combing through hair. Add a little bit of Marco Color Control Gel to add some fullness and style as usual for your day look.

Now it’s time to transform your hair for that romantic dinner for two. Use a large ceramic barrel curling iron (1-1.5″ in diameter) such as Babyliss for medium to long hair. Take ¾” in diameter and spray 1-2 mists of a flexible working lightweight hairspray such as Marco Color Guard Hairspray. Use a curling iron immediately and hold the curl for a few seconds. Repeat 10-12 sections for mid-length hair and let the curls set for a few minutes while getting dressed. Run hands through hair and if desired use the hairspray for a final spritz. This look only takes 15 minutes.

If you’re in your 20′s or 30′s, grab one side of hair and put in a decorative barette. Leave a few pieces hanging out and put the rest of the hair in a low ponytail for a more elegant feel.

All hair care products can be found at MarcoPelusi.com.

The holidays are over and it’s time to freshen up your hairstyle for the new year. Celebrity stylist Kevin Josephson of the Kevin Josephson Salon in Beverly Hills, California says it’s always good to maintain your cut, but if you like the current length of your hair, he recommends layering without seeing the layers to perk it up. Kevin has developed a haircutting technique of creating inner layers without sacrificing length. He says, “a little lift in the crown really goes a long way to remove a minimal amount of hair to get a maximum amount of effect.” Medium length and long hair look fuller without looking layered. Before blow drying and styling, Kevin’s favorite hair product is Nectar of the Gods, a deep treatment leave-in conditioner that restores softness, shine, elasticity and protects the hair from damage.

Kevin also loves L’Oreal TextureLine for styling because it has products available for every hair type, especially for fine hair which he says is very hard to find.

To keep your updated ‘do in place, Kevin suggests, L’Oreal Infinium hairspray because it “holds but is workable.” It comes in three different strengths, but Kevin’s favorite is Infinium No.4.

For all hair lengths, Kevin prefers Kusco-Murphy Lavender Hair Créme products for styling. It helps to pump up the volume when using a curling or flat iron for long hair or to give shorter hair a more textured look.

So if you want to revive your hair for the new year, give it a little “lift” with invisible layers!

It’s winter and all of the sudden your hair is in static mode. Celebrity hair stylist Stephen Lewis, whose clients include Tori Spelling and Winona Ryder, tells us how you can get your hair back into place.

“If your shampoo has a very high detergent level or if you’re overwashing your hair, it creates static,” Lewis says. “Instead, wash hair every three days or you can even wet it everyday, just don’t shampoo everyday.” He recommends Giovanni’s Magnetic Energizing Shampoo to completely wash away residue and Magnetic Restruxturizing Conditioner to give hair shine and fullness. They contain ionic properties that helps eliminate frizz and static, especially during the cold months.

Ionic therapy is nothing new – it has been used in hair tools such as blow dryers, flat irons, and hair brushes. “Ionic has changed the way we do hair,” Lewis says. “Ionic blow dryers help hair dry faster, shinier and silkier because it works from the inside out. It dissolves water molecules into the hair, so it’s like getting a conditioning treatment every time.” Lewis counts iTech’s Ionic Tourmaline Professional Hair Dryer as his favorite, and he recommends using the iTech Handmade Ionic Carbon Combs when flat ironing for smooth, static free strands.

Now that the season’s changed, it’s time for your hair to change with it. Celebrity hair stylist Dustin David of the Dustin David Salon in Los Gatos, CA, says moisturizing and heat protectant products are a must. “Since most women blow dry their hair more often in cold weather because they don’t want to leave the house with wet hair, these products protect hair from heat damage.” David recommends moisturizing hair with a conditioning mask like Masquintence by Kerastase and ProSilk Serum to protect hair before blowdrying.

David says women are enriching their color this season. “Actress Sophia Bush just had her warm brown enrichened for a deeper and more sophisticated tone of brown.” Have your professional stylist add deeper pieces to give hair warmth and maintain the lighter pieces rather than covering them up.

So, should you go short or long? According to David, it’s both. “Women are either cutting their hair completely off into a bob, which looks great when paired with turtleneck sweaters, or they’re keeping it long, which looks fuller when worn with big winter clothes.”
