In War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his fellow apes are forced to battle an army of humans led by their merciless leader, The Colonel (Woody Harrelson) to determine the future of both of their species and the planet.

Recommendation: A
Although “War” is the last of the trilogy, this film stands on its own. Those unfamiliar with the first two films in the series will not feel left out or confused when watching this film. Still, I highly encourage you to see its predecessors at some point only because they are good films.

If you look closely, you may notice the following phrase displayed on one of the buildings inside the human community, “Keep your fear to yourself. Share your outrage with others.” If this sounds familiar, it’s because it is a modification of author Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous quote, “Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage with others.” Maybe if the humans shared their fears with the apes, they could have found a resolution rather than trying to obliterate them. Their contempt for the apes is echoed throughout the film, and for this reason, you will find yourself rooting for the apes to win this war.

War for the Planet of the Apes opens tomorrow, July 14, 2017 at theaters nationwide.
