Do You Know Your Cholesterol Level?

By Julie Wiegan

September is National Cholesterol Awareness Month. Do you know your cholesterol level? Probably not and you’re not alone. According to a recent survey taken by the Society for Women’s Health Research, 79% of women know how much they weighed in high school while less than one-third know their current cholesterol number.

High cholesterol is linked to hardening of the arteries and heart disease, and it can also lead to stroke. But you can prevent high cholesterol by exercising, eating more fruits and vegetables, and eating foods low in fat. If diet and exercise are not effective, there are medicines called statins that can help lower cholesterol levels.

Don’t become a statistic, visit your doctor today to find out your cholesterol number. It just may save your life!
