The Glades
By Abbey Khan
In the new A&E drama, The Glades, homicide detective Jim Longworth (Matt Passmore) is shot by his captain after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his wife. When Longworth is fired from his department and receives a settlement for the shooting, he relocates from Chicago to the sleepy, middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida.
The town offers plenty of sunshine and golf and crime seems to be at a minimum, but when people keep turning up murdered, he realizes this town isn’t as idyllic as he thought it would be. Instead of focusing on his short game and trying to get a date with beautiful medical student Callie (Kiele Sanchez), who has a 12-year-old son and a husband in prison, he realizes the skies in this new town are always sunny… with a chance of homicide.
Recommendation: C
Don’t expect The Glades to be a highly suspenseful cop drama. The show is part comedy with the sarcastic witty lead characters, Jim and Callie, who garner a chuckle here and there, but overall this show falls short and fails to establish itself as either a drama or comedy. We’re still waiting for the next Monk.
The Glades premieres on A&E on Sunday, July 11 at 10/9C.
